I need Thee every hour

1
I need Thee every hour,
  Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
  Can peace afford.

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
  Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
    I come to Thee.
2
I need Thee every hour,
  Stay Thou near by;
Temptations lose their power
  When Thou art nigh.
3
I need Thee every hour,
  In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
  Or life is vain.
4
I need Thee every hour,
  Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
  In me fulfill.
5
I need Thee every hour,
  Most Holy One;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
  Thou blessed Son.

The song is very respiratory, yes indeed we must recognize God in all that we do just as the song implies that both in joy and in difficulty we should put all our trust in Him cos we cannot do anything without Him. May His name be blessed forever and ever. Amen.

The song is a touching one, loves to sing and meditate on it, gives me a deep thinking that God is near, cos He told if I set Him before me that He would always be @ my right hand. May His name be praised forever. Even in difficult circumstances He is always there for us.

"Different hymns have a way of fitting themselves into people's lives and into religious services in certain ways. In a typical Wednesday night prayer meeting, this hymn is often sung just before the congregation prays. As a matter of fact, it's called a 'prayer song'. It's another one of those simple, straightforward old gospel hymns that points up the feeling folks have of wanting to be close to the Higher Person. And when you sing this song it's a close feeling you do get, a comfortable feeling. They say confession is good for the soul - this is a confession by a true believer that he needs divine help and guidance, needs it every hour of every day." - Tennessee Ernie Ford (1919-91)

Ernie's rendition has just verses 1,2 and 5:

1st verse: Male solo voice

Refrain: Choir in unison

2nd verse: Female solo voice

Refrain: Soprano-alto duet

5th verse: All voices in unison

Refrain: Women's voices on melody. Men's on cued notes.

In moderate time, with much expression

I'm realizing that I need the Lord every hour. I thought just loving Him and telling Him that was enough but now I see that I need You Lord!

I was in grade 5 when my math teacher taught me to sing the song in class everyday, I never forgot the words. Now I understand, thank God for Mam Khuzwayo at Bloekembos primary school in 2001.

This song has always blessed my soul and put my mind at rest each time I meditate on the lyrics. God bless the soul of the composer.

Surely every hour we need Him. From hour to hour we do not know what situations will confront us. We may say hallelujah or amen in the meeting, but when we get home, our joy may vanish, and instead of hallelujah and amen there will be silence and a long face. A problem has arisen. Or we may get chilled and catch cold. Whatever the problem, Christ is there taking care of our case. He bears us when we have a long face or are ill. His interceding never ceases. His ability to take care of us is unlimited because He is the almighty God. His priesthood is an interceding ministry in the heavens, in the Holy of Holies, before God for us.
