My faith has found a resting place

1
My faith has found a resting place,
  Not in device nor creed;
I trust the Ever-living One,
  His wounds for me shall plead.

I need no other argument,
  I need no other plea;
It is enough that Jesus died,
    And that He died for me.
2
Enough for me that Jesus saves,
  This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
  He’ll never cast me out.
3
My heart is leaning on the Word,
  The written Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior’s name,
  Salvation through His blood.
4
My great Physician heals the sick,
  The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
  For me His life He gave.

Indeed there shall be no any other argument the price has already been paid. It is forever settled.

Device or creed in the first stanza doesn't speak of “his devices” - 2 Cor 2:11 KJV as in Satan's schemes, wiles, or strategies per se even though it is closely related and connects with the true meaning. Device or creed in this context depicts step plans principles and precepts of men, what Paul all over his epistles called and condemned as “enticing words of man's wisdom” 1 Cor 2: 4, “any other gospel” Gal 1:8-9, “philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. ” Col 2:8, etc, in which many have trusted instead of completely leaning and relying on the finished work of Christ Jesus.

Explaining the song, we could simply see the spirit of confidence in the writer who expresses his trust on what Christ has fully accomplished to redeem us from sin, in which no device or creed (twisted gospel) beats the match. In line with Paul’s words in 2 Cor 10:4-5), the writer declares his stand in the chorus; “I need no other argument,

  I need no other plea;

It is enough that Jesus died,

    And that He died for me. ” Child of God, you don't need no other argument over these things we face. Its enough that His blood is shed. Stand on that and move on. Only in the shed blood of Jesus Christ are we free indeed.

In response to Dan from Anaheim, CA, posted on December 16, 2018:

Dan, device here means that our faith has found a resting place that is not necessarily on any kind of device (could be literal like any kind of resting or sleeping device on which one can take a nap; could also be seen in the context of strategy or tact like when The Bible says do not be ignorant of the devices of the devil). So, the author is basically saying that he has found his resting place in Christ The Ever-living One, not on things that eyes can see or money can buy, not on ideas, not on certain ways of doing things, not on any doctrine or laws or rules, but basically ON CHRIST. And that he is certain the wounds CHRIST had sustained on The Cross would always plead on our behalf before The Throne of The FATHER — GRACE!!! Oh thank You JESUS for Your sacrifice!!!

@Dan, I hope that helped a little.

It is indeed enough that Jesus died. His death ends my fear. His word gives me strength. I need no other plea and there is no more argument. It is not contestible it is finished, it is done and settled. Praise my mighty King.

Device means some type of program or scheme, like following a check list. Our faith isn't founded on following a denomination or a particular way of doing things. We aren't secure because we have daily devotions, or pray a certain way or a certain number of times, or (fill in the blank. ) We are secure because Jesus died and His death was sufficient for each of us.

At my lowest ebb, especially when the enemy comes to attack me with the danger of my past errors, this hymn lifts my spirit.

I bless God for the inspiration.

The gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is not a rhetoric scheme devised to evoke emotional responses in people. IT'S THE TRUTH THE WAY AND LIFE. It's not a device.
