Amazing Grace

1
Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
  That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
  Was blind, but now I see.
2
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
  And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
  The hour I first believed!
3
The Lord hath promised good to me,
  His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
  As long as life endures.
4
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
  Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
  Than when we first begun.

Amazing Grace, How Sweet the sound!!!

This is a must learn and know for my children and children's children, because their father and grandfather immensely benefitted from the amazing grace of Jesus Christ.

I am who I am today not because of my own strength but the grace of God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has brought me that far. I am grateful for the love He has for me, for the free gift of life and above all for the Amazing grace.

John Newton's tombstone, written by himself, says, "John Newton, clerk, once an infidel and Libertine, a servant of slavers in Africa, was, by the rich mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, preserved, restored, pardoned, and appointed to preach the faith he had so long labored to destroy."

When it was suggested that Newton retire (at age 82!) due to poor health and a failing memory, he responded, "My memory is nearly gone, but I remember 2 things: that I am a great sinner, and that Christ is a great Savior!"

It was the grace of God that rescued me. When I look back to see the dangers that I toyed with and the grace that sustained me, till I found the love of Christ and His strength to serve Him, I weep. Unholy and unworthy me, He choose to die for.

This song has three more verses:

Verse 3

Through many dangers, toils, and snares

I have already come;

'Twas grace that brought me safe thus far,

And grace will lead me home.

Verse 5

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,

And mortal life shall cease

I shall possess within the veil

A life of joy and peace!

Verse 6

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,

The sun forebear to shine;

But God, who called me here below

Will be forever mine.

We live in a fast and ever changing world, but one thing that's constant is the unchanging, unfailing, unconditional love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Thank you I. Acosta for sharing the story of Captain/Pastor Newton. I truly enjoyed reading what you wrote of how Newton's faith had changed in the 1700's and wrote this song. He truly had the amazing grace experienced. Last August 2011, I too had this amazing grace experienced through listening to this Amazing Grace song after sometime my one cochlear implant was turned on. Gospel music is becoming more beautiful everyday as I practice listening to gospel music to both ears now. My right ear got activated today. I'm humbled.

We are familiar with the hymn "Amazing Grace." Although this is a good hymn, it does not speak of the Triune God as our portion for our enjoyment. When this hymn was written, the experiential knowledge of God among the Lord's people had not come to this point. Even as recent as fifty years ago, Christians did not have the understanding of grace as the Triune God experienced and enjoyed by us. But standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, we have come to know that grace is far more than merely unmerited favor. Grace is the Triune God—the Father, the Son, and the Spirit—processed for our experience and enjoyment.
