1
Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
  That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
  Was blind, but now I see.
2
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
  And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
  The hour I first believed!
3
The Lord hath promised good to me,
  His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
  As long as life endures.
4
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
  Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
  Than when we first begun.

Thank You Lord for Your grace and mercy! I know I don’t deserve it nor can I earn it, but You love me enough to give it to me. So much to be grateful for!

Today on Thanksgiving day, my baby would have been born. All I could think to do was stop by the mission sit in the garden and sing this hymn. Glad I did, I know my baby Grace was looking down at her mommy and daddy from heaven seeing how much we love her.

Oh God please bring me peace.

My mother passed in 2001, but I'll always remember the last words from her. She was restless and liked me to sit with her so she could sleep. So I would quietly sing to her. I asked if I should sing Amazing Grace. Instead of answering, she sang the song. And slept solidly all night long after this. These were the last words from her - Mom singing Amazing Grace.

I sang this song to my sons when they were little a lot of times before bedtime and no matter how much energy and agitation they seemed to have they would always calm down and focus on the words and be in total peace after the song. I praise my Jesus for His salvation and peace.

What version is this third verse? At Canldler School of Theology they own a first edition of the text. The correct third verse is as follows (and it is my favorite verse) : Through many dangerous toils and snares, I have already come; 'Tis grace hath bro't me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

We are familiar with the hymn "Amazing Grace." Although this is a good hymn, it does not speak of the Triune God as our portion for our enjoyment. When this hymn was written, the experiential knowledge of God among the Lord's people had not come to this point. Even as recent as fifty years ago, Christians did not have the understanding of grace as the Triune God experienced and enjoyed by us. But standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, we have come to know that grace is far more than merely unmerited favor. Grace is the Triune God—the Father, the Son, and the Spirit—processed for our experience and enjoyment.
