Jesus bids us shine

1
Jesus bids us shine with a clear, pure light,
Like a little candle burning in the night;
In this world of darkness, we must shine,
You in your small corner and I in mine.
2
Jesus bids us shine, then, for all around
Many kinds of darkness in this world abound—
Sin and want and sorrow; we must shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.

Precious children sang this hymn during the Summer Camp of our church. I was so touched and lightened up by it.

Sang this in Sunday school when it was a birthday rather than happy birthday, then you could blow the candles out it’s a wonderful song.

I learned this beautiful hymn when I began school in 1948 and it has remained with me my whole life. I was born again in 1968 and began to understand what shining is. I look forward to shining eternally with all the saints in heaven

This little song is based on purported sayings of Jesus presented in Chapter 5 of the Gospel according to Matthew in the Christian Bible. Despite its apparent and disarming simplicity the message is very profound and sums up the whole of what is involved in being a follower of Jesus in any age. It is much more accessible and indeed challenging than what the best theologians can come up with. It never fails to move me.

All I had was “one small corner” A quick search brought me here.

A quick sing song and, low and behold, the child in the man sings again.

Wonderful song! Love the words! My daughter is a missionary and it really helps her to sing it! She runs an orphanage for the orphans, over in India.

Very nice music. This a very nice song to sing. God has sent this song for us. Thank You Lord for giving such a beautiful song. This song is all about shining. Listening to this song I felt that you are sitting next to me and singing this song.

Thank You Lord.

Oh! this beautiful hymn that my dad sang to me when I was a small child if I woke up in the night. I am 68yrs old now and I have sung it to my grandchildren when they were small. May Our Lord bless each and every one of you, and may this hymn never be lost to time.

I was asked to share the word this coming Sunday at the children's church the 9th March 2014. I wanted the little ones to shine like a candle as Jesus wanted us to be. So, I wanted them to sing this song. Thank you so much. May the Good LORD bless You!
