In God’s green pastures feeding by His cool waters lie;
Soft in the evening walk my Lord and I,
All the sheep of His pasture
Fare so wondrously fine; His sheep am I.
Soft in the evening walk my Lord and I,
All the sheep of His pasture
Fare so wondrously fine; His sheep am I.

Through the streets of the city in the darkness of the night,
Far from the fold, He heard my lonely cry.
Now I sit at His table in the palace of light;
His sheep am I.
Far from the fold, He heard my lonely cry.
Now I sit at His table in the palace of light;
His sheep am I.

I learned three verses but for the life of me can only remember two. The first verse (above) is the same. I have *never* heard the second (above). And the additional verse I can remember goes as follows:
Oh, do you know the Shepherd who has died for His sheep?
Know of His cleansing blood, His power to keep?
He's a wonderful Savior and He loves you and me.
Are you His sheep?

Back Home in Ireland we sang the piece in camps , youth and church congregationally . My Mum played at home on her piano for me to practice for me to lead off .

What a joy to find this song here. I learned this song at Camp Fireside, a Christian camp in New Hampshire back in the early 60’s. We were only taught the first verse. Our chapel , Garrish Chapel, had a metal roof and on torrential raining days you could not even hear the pastor. So, we were instructed to sing this song as loud as we could! It was so much fun. Sometimes we sang the song in round. My very best memories as a young girl came from my many summers at this camp and remembering this song which I still sing from time to time when I am troubled and feeling lost.
our maternal uncle taught us this song... we used to sing in rounds. I still cherish those times. I even taught this song to my son.

I've sung this since I was a child and it's one of my favorites. I've always known the second verse to be:
Yes the Lord is my shepherd
And no want shall I know.
He'll guide and comfort me
Where 'ere I go.
On the mount, in the valley,
By His hand He shall lead,
His sheep all I.

It's like God inspired this song for people going through a family crisis. I woke this morning with a barrage of thoughts on things to do to end the marriage because I am tired of fighting and my partner is not budging. But three Bible verses popped into my thoughts:
1. Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength...
Lord, but I have been waiting and nothing has changed. Then came the second one:
2. Luke 9:23 - If anyone desires to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross DAILY and follow Me.
And the third one followed.
3. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
That's how this song from my childhood popped: His sheep am I. I don't even remember all the tune but I am going YouTube it and memorize the stanzas. What a blessing! What a comfort!

I’ve always loved this song so much! I grew up singing a completely different second verse than the ones listed here. It went:
The Good Shepherd is watching o’er his lambs day by day.
Guiding their footsteps in the narrow way.
Little lambs are his precious and most tender concern.
His lamb am I!

I learned this song as a child, but only the first verse. We are going through a family crisis & after my devotion this morning, this song came to my memory. So glad I looked it up & found the 2nd verse. Plans to memorize the 2nd verse & teach the song to my granddaughter.

I became a born again Christian when I was in college, 48 years ago. ,and I learned this song in one of the weekly Christian gatherings in our campus.
I found myself just now remembering this song, & wanting to share this with the women of my sunday school group led me to this website.
