Fill My Cup, Lord

1
Like the woman at the well, I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy.
And then I heard my Savior speaking—
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.”
  Fill my cup, Lord;
I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.
2
There are millions in this world who are seeking
For pleasures earthly goods afford.
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.
3
So my brother if the things that this world gives you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray—

The tone is pleading and tender. Such a sweet song. A precious song I remember from my childhood growing up in the Methodist Church.

The first two verses are great. They are a prayer. The last verse is simply NOT TRUE, and very deceptive. The Lord is under no obligation to "save me" simply because I "humbly" ask him to. The first verse shows the picture of TRUE conversion. "I heard my Savior speaking, 'Draw from the well that never will run dry.'" The Lord is the initiator, 'lest any man boast.' Jesus "must needs go through Samaria" because the Lord WILL save the elect. This event demonstrates that it matters not who you are, or where you are, if you are God's chosen, His 'elect,' He WILL come and get you. Many think they are 'saved' who are not. Jesus said, "Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life: and FEW there be, that find it." Conversely, He said, "WIDE is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction: and MANY there be, which go in thereat." Read it in context (Mt. 7:13-27) may the Spirit open to you the fact that most 'professing Christians' are goats and do not know it: "there is no fear of God before their eyes." (Rom. 3:18.) For excellent reading on this subject I strongly recommend two books: "Seeking God: Jonathan Edwards' Evangelism Contrasted with Modern Methodologies," and "Knowing the Heart: Jonathan Edwards on True and False Conversion."

This song's words was given to me beginning of this week, 24.3.2014 by the Lord again after years. It's a very special song, words are a message to me, for in a time like this. Thank you for helping me getting the words through a precious friend of mine who is a user of your page.
