Darkness reigns o’er this adult’rous, crooked world today;
Saints should shine, illumine near and far;
Honest and unfeigned, before man shine, God’s life display—
We ought to shine, where’er we are.
Saints should shine, illumine near and far;
Honest and unfeigned, before man shine, God’s life display—
We ought to shine, where’er we are.
Brighten the corner where you are!
Brighten the corner where you are!
Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar;
Brighten the corner where you are!
Brighten the corner where you are!
Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar;
Brighten the corner where you are!

’Tis the Lord’s command that you before men shine your light.
Him obey, don’t hide, your light to mar.
For a sinner needs a guide to go from dark to light;
Brighten the corner where you are.
Him obey, don’t hide, your light to mar.
For a sinner needs a guide to go from dark to light;
Brighten the corner where you are.

Right beside you are believers who have gone astray;
For lost sheep, you need not seek afar.
In Christ’s love, exhort, restore, and comfort them today;
Brighten the corner where you are.
For lost sheep, you need not seek afar.
In Christ’s love, exhort, restore, and comfort them today;
Brighten the corner where you are.

Stay in fellowship with Jesus and behold His face
If His glorious radiance you’d impart.
Love and serve the Lord sincerely; this will touch men’s hearts;
Brighten the corner where you are.
If His glorious radiance you’d impart.
Love and serve the Lord sincerely; this will touch men’s hearts;
Brighten the corner where you are.

Christ is coming as the Master to reward His slaves;
He appears on high, the Morning Star;
Sinners rescue, saints recover while it’s still today,
Brighten the corner where you are.
He appears on high, the Morning Star;
Sinners rescue, saints recover while it’s still today,
Brighten the corner where you are.

Please change last sentence on last comment and add the following. We may never know how many saints we have influenced in our life. We may only affect a few, but they may affect many. Never look down on your portion.

When I was quite young my mom sang this song. “This little light of mine I’m going to let it shine”. I tripped over this hymn this morning. It seems I always think I should be doing something big. I think that cheats us from realizing God has placed us in the body where He wants. We must take care of our little corner. We can use our one talent very effectively in our current situation and place. Maybe when can really change one or two lives.

I learned this song at church when I was about 7. I have lived my life by the message - so many wonderful ways God has used this message to brighten someone else’s moments who needed a lift of love.

My family always sung the chorus after singing happy birthday. Anybody else have this tradition or know where it comes from?

This is my New Years resolution for 2022. I may not be able to do some things at the age of 77, but I can do this and with God's help I will.... happy New Year 2022..

I am 94 years old and my daughter is typing this for me. I learned this song back in Sunday School at the Methodist Church in downtown Elyria, Ohio. It was in the early 1930's. This morning I woke up with the Lyrics and Melody in my mind and I sang it to my daughter and her husband! Then my daughter looked up on her computer and we all learned more about it!

FBN radio plays this song in a two piano/four hands version. I have been searching for it for years.

Uplifting message based on a favorite Bible verse: Micah 6:8 woven with a singable hymn tune.
