The Church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word:
From heav’n He came and sought her
To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word:
From heav’n He came and sought her
To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.

Elect from every nation,
Yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.
Yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

’Mid toil and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

Yet she on earth hath union
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
In love may dwell with Thee.
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
In love may dwell with Thee.

I am stunned to read in the comments here that others have recently awakened with this hymn running in mind, because I am here at this site for the same reason. I woke this morning hearing this beautiful hymn in my mind and heart.

I really love this hymn..
It gives me so much hope. The gates of hell will never prevail against the church 'the bride' of Christ.
It is one of my mind favorites too and evokes somany beautiful memories of my childhood and beautiful family devotion times. It's really the little things.. God bless my parents.

This too was my mother’s favorite and was played at her funeral. We are so blessed to be part of the Church Universal!

My mother's name is Aurelia and when she got married she had this as one of the hymns. With referral to ' to be his holy bride'
Mum died yesterday and I hope to have this hymn played at her funeral.

Wow! An instrumental of this song was playing this morning as I spent time with God in His Word. I too began singing the lyrics in my mind, as I was reading through John 8. Jesus is the ONE foundation. Granted, we may see many things differently within the Body of Christ, but if we miss The Cornerstone, we miss everything. Praise be to God for giving us His Son upon Whom our hope and life are built!

This is so very interesting! He has woken me up as well with this hymn, this morning!
It is already the 1st of March, 2020!
All GLORY, all HONOUR, ALL POWER IS THE SUSTAINING POWER IN THE LAMB OF GOD, ~ even JESUS CHRIST!
HE has also expanded upon HIS PRAYER, THE LORD'S PRAYER, this morning! Indeed- Hallowed be His NAME, ABOVE ALL NAMES!
Psalm 34, and Psalm 95... sing these out together unto the KING OF GLORY!

Hallelujah to our Lord Jesus! I too have woken up hearing this hymn in my heart and mind the last month or so. I wonder how dear to our Lord's heart it must be and how it blesses Him that we believe it and sing it! He is moving in His beloved's hearts in these last days. I too sang it as a child in church but now it has such beautiful new meeting to me as I am born again and in my Lord Jesus Christ. Love You Lord!

In this week of prayer for Christian unity, this hymn echoes in my thoughts. We are one despite our differences, with more in common than not. Yet how easily we allow our differences divide us to the detriment of our witness. Lord, forgive us and bring us together again in Yourself. That the world may know.

I haven’t sung this hymn for years but for the last week it has run through my head. I love the church of Christ. These words ring out His glorious worth, our great hope and what a special family He made of us. All Glory to Jesus!
