What a Friend we have in Jesus

1
What a Friend we have in Jesus,
  All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
  Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
  O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
  Everything to God in prayer!
2
Have we trials and temptations?
  Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
  Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
  Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
  Take it to the Lord in prayer.
3
Are we weak and heavy-laden,
  Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
  Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
  Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
  Thou wilt find a solace there.

This song came to me when I was praying this morning. I've been anxious and troubled about several things. Today I told the Lord that it's too much for me to bear and I want to give it all to Him. He is a faithful friend. I know He will carry me through this season.

Today the Lord has reminded me this is His narrative for me, not the threatening illness facing my wife. My narrative is Him, all He is and that I belong to the greatest Friend!

Being abandoned and forgotten by those I called friends, I was reminded of this precious hymn. It helped me to remember who my REAL friend is, and most importantly, to seek Him out for my comfort and refuge, rather than others.

I hope someone readng this, who is hurt and feels forgotten, will make the effort to call upon Jesus for help. I guarantee that, if you truly seek Him, He will answer your call and set you free.

I hope this is an encouragement to you all as well.

Luke 11:5-8

5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend

me three loaves;

6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot

rise and give thee.

8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and

give him as many as he needeth.

Friendship is a key component in our prayer life. This is true from two aspects. One is concerning the relationships we have

with those we pray for, and the other is regarding our relationship with God. In these verses in Luke, Jesus begins to address

both of these aspects.

* I was searching and found a link, but it won't let me post the link. if you google search "LORD TEACH ME TO PRAY" hopefully you will find it too.

I found comfort and encouragement reading through the comments here.

Thank You Lord Jesus for being my friend!

My son and I found solace in the Lord after we were neglected. The song encourages in every situation we go through.

When you are down and lonely and abandoned Jesus is always there for you. Powerful message in the song.

Praise our God! He is always with us. Through the good and the bad. Sometimes we forget to look up instead of looking at our situation. His love is unfathomable.
