What a Friend we have in Jesus

1
What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
  Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
  Everything to God in prayer!
2
Have we trials and temptations?
  Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
3
Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
  Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
  Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

What a privilege for me undeserving to take my burden to the Lord Jesus Christ. I'm grateful.

It feels so good and reassuring that I can reach out to the Lord again and again and at all times with my worries and cares. I don't have to bottle them! I do not have to be encumbered by worries; I should take them all to the burden bearer - 1 Peter 5:7. Today, Lord I am reaching out to you with all my problems, take them over, and give me peace.

This hymn is such a great reminder. I can cast my cares upon the Lord because He cares for me (1 Peter 5:7). I recently turned 21 years old and I hope to prioritize my friendship with Jesus for the rest of my life.

I woke up this dawn singing this song over and over, and I see that it is embedded in my preaching this morning from 1 Peter 1, especially in our memory verse 3, which says “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ”

I thank God for our predecessors who wrote this hymn and many more through Holy Ghost inspiration.

Wow. I woke up seeking to hear God. And I was being taught on what praying without ceasing means and does. Then this song came to mind. I had to look for the lyrics again. As I did, I came across the lyricists biography and I am learning the poem originally was called Pray without ceasing!

I marvel at how God through the years and using different vessels (the lyricists, the friend, the composers etc) has continued to work this song to bring it to light, to life and to perfection.

Hallelujah!

I was praying this morning and Holy Spirit let me to this song what a friend we have in Jesus and I believe or what I’m going through has gone when I sang this song. Amen

Always connected this hymn with friendship with God but realised the other day that it’s far more than that . Six times it reminds us that whatever situation/ circumstances we find ourselves in we should always take it to the Lord in prayer ( what an amazing comfort to know)

Hello brothers and sisters! ❤️

I woke this morning with this hymn swirling around in my head. "Take it to the Lord in prayer". As I was looking up the words to the song, I came across this page. After a long time of feeling so discouraged with the state of the world, I was so encouraged to see so many people from all over the world who have commented on this hymn. Thank you for reminding me you are out there!

Jesus is indeed the only friend we'll ever need.

Shalom y'all!
