Turn your eyes upon Jesus

1
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free.
  Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
  In the light of His glory and grace.
2
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conqu’rors we are!
3
His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
Believe Him and all will be well;
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

This was the favourite song of my dearly beloved wife and best friend of 40 years.

This song was sung over the congregation on the day we were married.

From time to time we sang it to remind each other to "turn your eyes upon Jesus".

When my wife became ill with a massive tumor growing inside her, I sang this song with tears in my eyes to her, to remind her that He was there for her, for us.

She went home to be with her beloved Lord Jesus at midnight on the morning of 16 June 2022, with her last breath she said to Jesus "I love You!".

I sang this song to her when I said my last goodbye to her...

One day we will stand next to each other again in eternity and sing together, "turn your eyes upon Jesus!"

Let us, the Body of Christ, turn our eyes upon Jesus and look full in His wonderful face! Then the things of this world will finally go dim in the light of His glory and grace! Amen! Come Lord Jesus!

My sister and I sang this to our mother who requested this song in her final days. Every time I read/hear them, I’m starkly reminded what I see is temporal at best. Only CHRIST and His gift of eternal life is worth fully focusing on, fully pressing on towards.

"Yet I will look again toward thy holy temple"

Jonah 2:2-4

[2]And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

[3]For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

[4]Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

Acts 7:55

But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

This song was placed on my heart as I began writing a message for my youth group in a couple of weeks. I was hoping to find some more information on the author but instead stumbled upon all of your powerful testimonies, stories, and thoughts. You all have uplifted me greatly with these. I cannot wait to share this message with our students. It is a timely one for both myself and many of the things students have expressed struggling with themselves. God has given us all we need here on this Earth, and we can be joyful in that! Trials do not stand with Him in our corner.

Then go into a world that is dying, His perfect salvation to tell!

Oh such a marvelous uplifting hymn!

"Therefore let us also, having so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, put away every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us and run with endurance the race which is set before us, Looking away unto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down on the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2) Recovery Version

Experientially, when we turn to our mingled spirit we are brought out of ourselves, out of our condition, out of our sovereign environment into the realm of enjoyment, joy, and peace into our awesome Christ who is our Victorious King! We overcomer all the earthly entanglements to run our Christian race!

"Not that I have already obtained or am already perfected, but I pursue, if even I may lay hold of that for which I also have been laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brothers, I do not account of myself to have laid hold; but one thing I do: Forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before, I pursue toward the goal for the prize to which God in Christ Jesus has called me upward." (Philippians 3:12-14) Recovery Version
