Nearer, my God, to Thee

1
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
  Nearer to Thee;
E’en though it be a cross
  That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
  Nearer to Thee.
2
Though, like a wanderer,
  The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
  My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
  Nearer to Thee.
3
There let me see the sight,
  An open heaven;
All that Thou sendest me,
  In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
  Nearer to Thee.
4
Then, with my waking thoughts
  Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
  Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
  Nearer to Thee.

I long to be nearer to Thee.

Nearer to Your will for me.

Nearer to Your likeness.

Less of me=more of You.

This song is so dear.

Thank you. I'm recovering from ear infections and on an antibiotic. Wondering in it all why I had to get sick.. once I got past my pride, I realise I need to share more with my students the side of suffering in the Bible and the role of suffering... to be ground down like wheat.. where as Richard Rhoet says.. we will be then wounded healers with far more compassion for ourselves and others. My mother just phoned me, with a lightness in her voice... she takes up her cross daily as she cares for my Father who has Alzheimer's.. but she also knows the joy of the Gospel... and like Pope Francis, when he was asked what he prays for everyday to sustain him, he replied 'A sense of humour'... I am now daily going to pray for a renewed sense of humour!
