1
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
2
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
4
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
5
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
6
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

This song came to me in a morning devotion and I sung for years before, but like I just got the revelation. God had been my help in the past and he will be in the future and my present help in trouble now until eternity.
Thank you Jesus, right now I am so secure under the shadow of his throne.

My prayers are, and have always been, that our nation would sing this hymn from their hearts. How much more now in this pandemic which has brought the world to a stand still. Perhaps the way God is speaking to the nations.

Our God indeed has been our help both in past times and in the present and in the future. In these trying times this hymn has been a great source of solace and comfort. Thank you Jesus for always being there to help.

I had to go on the net now to search out and speak to myself with this hymn. I am in a place where people expect me to be downcast and they seem concerned with my seeming stable mind. I am not unmindful of the future, no. Just that I know God is my hope for years to come.

O God, You have been our help in ages past and You are still our help in this difficult moment. Hallelujah

This song came to mind after my quiet time. Meditating on Psalm 24. Verse 1 confirming who is in charger of this world. Verse 8 described this King of Glory as STRONG; MIGHTY; INVISIBLE IN BATTLE. Then the words of this song began to minister to me. Truly we are NOT ALONE.

The Lord brought this dear hymn to my mind and heart at the beginning of the Pandemic. I have put verses of it on our kitchen chalkboard and we have sung it as a family as a reminder that we are held fast in the storm. Jesus is the anchor of our souls and by the work of the Holy Spirit, we will choose faith over fear as God numbers our days and holds the purposes for our lives here and for all eternity.
May God use this crisis to turn this world to Him. Our greatest need and help is Jesus.
