Jesus! I am resting, resting

E579
1
Jesus! I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
  Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For, by Thy transforming power,
  Thou hast made me whole.

Jesus! I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
    Of Thy loving heart.
2
Oh, how great Thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea:
Oh, how marvelous Thy goodness,
  Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in Thee, Beloved,
Know what wealth of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise,
  And have made it mine.
3
Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
  Satisfies my heart,
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings,
  Thine is love indeed.
4
Ever lift Thy face upon me,
As I work and wait for Thee;
Resting ’neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus,
  Earth’s dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father’s glory,
Sunshine of my Father’s face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting,
  Fill me with Thy grace.

Read about this hymn in Hudson Taylor’s biography. How blessed he was to know not only the words but the experience of it.

What a joy to come upon this 'site' as I sought out the comforts of "Jesus, I Am Resting" this early morning ..... O, how I long for this fellowship of like-minded 'hymn-lovers' .... my soul is so hungry for this! Please keep my close to your hearts......

A great song for those of us who have restless and unbelieving hearts. I like the old tune but wonder if one of our new contemporary composers would update the music for the newer generations. I would just remove the Thys and use more normal language.

I fall asleep most every night to these words and imagine my hands on the church piano keyboard learning to play this many years ago. When we accept the Lord Jesus... all anxiousness fades away and we can finally Rest in the thought of what He is... our Savior, Supplier, and Comforter.

This hymn had been appreciated by Hudson Taylor.

Jesus bring us into that place of perfect trust and perfect rest. Help us to enter into Your rest and always know that peace of that perfect trust.

As I read these lines this morning in my daily rotation of lyrics, I was amazed at their depth and relevance. I was familiar with these words for fifty years, but until now had taken them for granted..

Nearly five years ago, while teaching at a Christian school, I received an email from my older son, telling me he did not want to have anything to do with me. That day, minutes after receiving that devastating email, this song started running through my head. I believe God put it there. This has been a rough five years for my broken heart, but I can honestly say "I am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart."

Reading a biography of Hudson Taylor reminded us of this beautiful hymn with timeless words. Thank You, Lord Jesus, it is all true! Help us to rest in You.
