Oh, safe to the Rock that is higher than I,
My soul in its conflicts and sorrows would fly,
So sinful, so weary, Thine, Thine would I be,
Thou blest Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee.
My soul in its conflicts and sorrows would fly,
So sinful, so weary, Thine, Thine would I be,
Thou blest Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee.
Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee,
Thou blest Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee.
Thou blest Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee.

In the calm of the noontide, in sorrow’s lone hour,
In times when temptation casts o’er me its power;
In the tempests of life, on its wide, heaving sea,
Thou blest Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee.
In times when temptation casts o’er me its power;
In the tempests of life, on its wide, heaving sea,
Thou blest Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee.

How oft in the conflict, when pressed by the foe,
I have fled to my Refuge and breathed out my woe,,
How often, when trials like sea-billows roll,
Have I hidden in Thee, O Thou Rock of my soul.
I have fled to my Refuge and breathed out my woe,,
How often, when trials like sea-billows roll,
Have I hidden in Thee, O Thou Rock of my soul.

This morning I was preparing a sermon for the Methodist school children in refugee eruption of Mount Sinabung in Karo Indonesia.
They are disturbing me, how to answer the assurance that God is able to cope while they are undergoing catastrophic eruption is very sad.
With this song I was given inspiration, passion and certainty. Thank God.

I love this song very much.

This was my late father's favourite hymn. Sadly, it has fallen in popularity and is excluded from most post 1960 hymn book collections. A shame, because it is a great hymn of comfort and assurance.

I was thinking of Psalm 61:2 (From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.) for the past few days and last night thought of this song, but couldn't remember much of it. So happy to have found it here! The words and the scripture it is based on brings comfort to my heart. So grateful that God is a refuge that can never be shaken.

What a wonderful song that brings peace amidst storms of life. It's a song that assures me of an ever present Saviour even in my lowest moments. I hold on to Him since it's Him and Him alone who can offer peace that passes human understanding. Thank You Jesus.

What a beautiful hymn! Tears roll down my cheeks. While in Madras at home my dad would teach my mom songs from Golden Bells as he played the organ. We would gather half an hour before Friday prayer meetings. Mum had a beautiful voice. She would start on the right note. Glorious Days! Childhood memories. Both of them are with the Lord. Thanks to Google.

Any time I sing, listen or meditate on this song, it reassures me of God's faithfulness in being an eternal refuge and buckler to me and all His children redeemed by the blood of Jesus because God's everlasting arm is under me and all His own.
This song never fails to give me hope and encouragement...and whenever I sing it in my head, I am reminded that God has been my refuge, my strength and my fortress...He's never failed me yet....and this too shall pass.

Ever since I found this song it has been a great inspiration to me giving me hope in life's journey like a friend of mine says trusting in God is standing on a rock living victoriously.
