Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole

1
Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole,
I want Thee forever to live in my soul;
Break down every idol, cast out every foe;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Whiter than snow; yes, whiter than snow;
  Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
2
Lord Jesus, let nothing unholy remain,
Apply Thine own blood and extract every stain;
To get this blest cleansing I all things forego;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
3
Lord Jesus, look down from Thy throne in the skies,
And help me to make a complete sacrifice;
I give up myself and whatever I know;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
4
Lord Jesus, for this I most humbly entreat;
I wait, blessed Lord, at Thy crucified feet;
By faith, for my cleansing I see Thy blood flow;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
5
Lord Jesus, Thou seest I patiently wait;
Come now, and within me a new heart create;
To those who have sought Thee Thou never saidst, No;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

We had our first blizzard of the winter today, which is a Sunday, and I called this hymn at church. As a brother shared in the meeting, the beautiful snow outside is a reminder of how clean the Lord has made us by His blood.

James L. Nicholson was born in Ireland, and came to America some time in the 1850’s. He lived for years in Philadelphia, then moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as a clerk in the Post Office. As a Christian layman, he taught Sunday School, led the singing in church, and assisted in evangelistic work.

While in Philadelphia, Nicholson attended the Wharton Street Methodist Episcopal Church, of which gospel musician William Kirkpatrick was also a member. Nicholson wrote a number of hymns, but this is the only one in general use today, - wordwisehymns

There is a 6th stanza in the original:

The blessing by faith, I receive from above;

O glory! my soul is made perfect in love;

My prayer has prevailed, and this moment I know,

The blood is applied, I am whiter than snow.

Never heard this hymn before but it's #99 of 100 Inspirational Hymns CD I was listening to between yesterday and today. Praise God. I will now add it to my favourite list and learn the music. God bless you.

We thank You Lord for Your endless love. It is us that need You; but yet You care for our eternal life so much, that You wanted to initiate the eternal relationship with Your sacrifice. We love You LORD! The Lord is #1 and then everything follows.

What a blessed joy to see that you have thought enough to share the peace that God gives us through this song. Now my hubby and I can have background music when we do our morning and evening worship. Thanks for sharing, He's coming back really soon.

As I fight my demons and reading through Eph 4:11-15 this song came through for me in my morning devotions at work and I had to google it. Thanks for the website.
