More about Jesus would I know,
More of His grace to others show;
More of His saving fulness see,
More of His love who died for me.

More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fulness see,
  More of His love who died for me.
2
More about Jesus let me learn,
More of His holy will discern;
Spirit of God my teacher be,
Showing the things of Christ to me.
3
More about Jesus; in His Word,
Holding communion with my Lord;
Hearing His voice in every line,
Making each faithful saying mine.
4
More about Jesus; on His throne,
Riches in glory all His own;
More of His kingdom’s sure increase;
More of His coming, Prince of Peace.

"Spirit of God my teacher be

Showing the things of Christ to me"

The song serves as a reassurance to me that as I desire to know more and more about Jesus, I should fully rely on the help of the holy Spirit for I cannot to do it with my own personal struggles, but by surrendering totally to the help of the holy Spirit.

Eliza Hewitt wrote the hymn “More about Jesus” in 1887. She was born in 1851 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was trained in education, later becoming a school teacher in the public schools in Philadelphia.

One day, Eliza was struck in the back with a heavy slate (in those days children practiced their writing on slates and chalk) by one of her students who was very distraught. Eliza, being seriously injured, was unable to go back to teaching; but she did continue to be involved in Sunday School. After her injury, she spent most of the time indoors. While slowly recovering, she studied literature and wrote poems. At one point, she had a class with as many as 200 children. She was able in that situation to combine the two great loves of her life: children and Jesus. She later became superintendent of the primary department of the church when her condition improved. Even though she was able to work to some degree, Eliza still was in constant pain for the rest of her life. “More about Jesus” was one of the poems she wrote while she was incapacitated. It expresses her desire to know Jesus better, as is expressed in Philippians 3:10: “To know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death. ” Through her pain, her attention was turned to Jesus and the desire to know the depths of His love.

I woke up with this song in my spirit. I first heard it as a child in church. Now I am a grown man and a minister of the Gospel. This song is an accurate and exact description of my deep hunger for more of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Oh that I might know Him; and the power of His Resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death. Phil. 3: 10

The Sweet Holy Spirit awoke me this morning with the words…

“More, more about JESUS”.

Press in to the only King of Kings and Lord of all.

Jesus is worthy of all our devotion. Praise be to the living God forever and ever, amen and amen and amen.
