An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love Divine!
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness Divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Am in love with the song I think in these bad days we do need God's grace, blessings & love
San Jose, CA, United States
As news of Coronavirus surrounds me and as we are on lockdown here in California, the words of this song have been going through my head. So I looked it up and came here. Beautiful words to show the beautiful act our Creator did - humbling himself to live and die among us, for us. This is my joy today, to remember this act of love.

God is great
Nairobi, Kenya
It is indeed a great mystery! A king who left his throne and took the form of a bond servant. How can the immortal God fit within the confines and limitations of flesh and blood? The scriptures do little to unravel this mystery, yet they do not hesitate to proclaim it. An act of love that is impossible to fathom.

Charles Wesley (1708-1788)
“And Can it Be That I Should Gain? ” was written in 1738 and was based on Psalm 145 to celebrate Wesley’s conversion which he said took place on May 21 of that year. The lines “My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee” are based on the story in the book of Acts chapter 12 where Peter is released from prison by an angel.
