Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling

1
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling—
  Calling for you and for me;
Patiently Jesus is waiting and watching—
  Watching for you and for me!
  Come home! come home!
  Ye who are weary, come home!
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
    Calling, O sinner, come home!
2
Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading—
  Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies—
  Mercies for you and for me?
3
Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing—
  Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, death-beds are coming—
  Coming for you and for me!
4
Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised—
  Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon—
  Pardon for you and for me!

I think this is the most beautiful song ever and I believe but for some reason recently this song has touched my heart.

We used to sing this gospel at our church in Inuktitut (back then Eskimo) way up in the arctic coast. That was between 50 and 60 years ago. I'm now 66 years old. The community was so clean and pristine, calm waters during our short summer.

This takes me back to my very young childhood, 3 generations singing this in perfect harmony as dinner was being prepared in my grandmother's old farmhouse. 2 of those 3 generations are Home. HalleluYah. Mom and I will join them soon enough, He is on His way.

This hymn speaks to the heart. My spirit is rekindled. Thanks be to God who inspired His men to touch lives with such inspirational songs. Jesus is indeed calling.

Today as I took my shower to get ready to go to the Hospice house to be with my sister in law as she sat by her brothers side, all I kept hearing in my head.... I knew right then and there that God was calling my brother in law home... When I walked in the door my Brenda told me he had just passed away and he went ever so peacefully. Rest in peace George, you are finally home.

This song means so much to me. When I was 13, this was the hymn that was playing in the background during a Sunday night church service back in 1976. At that very moment, I felt the tug at my heart from the Holy Sprint and walked to the front by myself to accept Jesus as my Savior. Within, 5 minutes I felt a hand on my left shoulder and it was my Mother and I felt a hand on my right shoulder and it was my Father. We all accepted Jesus as a family!
