If I gained the world, but lost the Savior,
Were my life worth living for a day?
Could my yearning heart find rest and comfort
In the things that soon must pass away?
If I gained the world, but lost the Savior,
Would my gain be worth the lifelong strife?
Are all earthly pleasures worth comparing
For a moment with a Christ-filled life?
Were my life worth living for a day?
Could my yearning heart find rest and comfort
In the things that soon must pass away?
If I gained the world, but lost the Savior,
Would my gain be worth the lifelong strife?
Are all earthly pleasures worth comparing
For a moment with a Christ-filled life?

Had I wealth and love in fullest measure,
And a name revered both far and near,
Yet no hope beyond, no harbor waiting,
Where my storm-tossed vessel I could steer;
If I gained the world, but lost the Savior,
Who endured the cross and died for me,
Could then all the world afford a refuge,
Whither, in my anguish, I might flee?
And a name revered both far and near,
Yet no hope beyond, no harbor waiting,
Where my storm-tossed vessel I could steer;
If I gained the world, but lost the Savior,
Who endured the cross and died for me,
Could then all the world afford a refuge,
Whither, in my anguish, I might flee?

O what emptiness!—without the Savior
'Mid the sins and sorrows here below!
And eternity, how dark without Him!
Only night and tears and endless woe!
What, though I might live without the Savior,
When I come to die, how would it be?
O to face the valley's gloom without Him!
And without Him all eternity!
'Mid the sins and sorrows here below!
And eternity, how dark without Him!
Only night and tears and endless woe!
What, though I might live without the Savior,
When I come to die, how would it be?
O to face the valley's gloom without Him!
And without Him all eternity!

O the joy of having all in Jesus!
What a balm the broken heart to heal!
Ne'er a sin so great, but He'll forgive it,
Nor a sorrow that He does not feel!
If I have but Jesus, only Jesus,
Nothing else in all the world beside—
O then everything is mine in Jesus;
For my needs and more He will provide.
What a balm the broken heart to heal!
Ne'er a sin so great, but He'll forgive it,
Nor a sorrow that He does not feel!
If I have but Jesus, only Jesus,
Nothing else in all the world beside—
O then everything is mine in Jesus;
For my needs and more He will provide.

It's great to have Jesus. Even if we earned the world but lost the savior, will we have anything to save ourselves with from the world!

If I gained the world but lost the saviour! What emptiness! Everything on this earth will surely pass away, but the word of God will remain. We should set our minds on the things which are above!

The world is full of struggles, whether we are rich or poor. Even if we gain the whole world, we still would not have a true refuge for our storm-tossed vessel. But 'everything is mine in Jesus! '. When we have Jesus, then everything is ours.

A day without Jesus is truly the gloomiest. One tends to walk on eggshells, yet one's heart is usually to stubborn to turn back to Him. But Praise the Lord there's never a sin to great, but He'll forgive it, nor a sorrow that He does not feel! Saints, O what emptiness there is without the Savior. He is truly everything! Just believe in Him!
O then everything is mine in Jesus reminds me of Ephesians 1:3-5

Lord, gaining the world means nothing if it means losing You. Lord, nothing compares to You. If I have Jesus, only Jesus, I gain everything!

What a song! Years ago I wept my heart through all the four stanzas sung to the blessed old tune. I had arrived late at my church's weekly Monday Bible study. The treacherous Lagos traffic did me in. Meanwhile I had been mourning my confinement to my secular employment in a finance company that paid fine salary but sucked all time and strength from me. I knew God had called me but I couldn't leave because of a pending fraud case in which I was my company's star witness.
Barely two minutes after I stepped into church and joined the proceedings the choir stepped out and struck this song. My heart and head exploded in waves of anguish. Every word of the song and the heavenly presence were like a thousand jabs on my soul.
The choir must have prayed much. And then, the old tune...(Please, I will have nothing of the often light-hearted "new tune").
The joy is that I found my release months later. That was 1990. I'm still joyfully engaged in my Saviour's service today. Yesterday, the soloist sang this song and brought back old memories...
Apologies for my rather long comment.
