1
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night;
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night;
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
2
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father and I, Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father and I, Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
3
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise;
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart;
O King of glory, my treasure Thou art.
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart;
O King of glory, my treasure Thou art.
4
O King of glory, my victory won;
Rule and reign in me 'til Thy will be done;
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall;
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
Rule and reign in me 'til Thy will be done;
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall;
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

This hymn is my prayer! I remember first hearing it when I was a born again Christian; and I yearned to be in the spiritual state where I could sing this hymn, and mean every word.
Years have passed and I’ve grown closer to God. Today I sing this song with a zeal!

@Bamminer the reason why the old English words in this hymn come across as "corny" to you and apparently other black American saints may be put down to your cultural background, and your preference to adapting timeless hymns to modern tastes. Cultures come and go and tastes change like the tide but one thing remains is God's Love and the church. Yes, if you feel to change the words brother go right ahead, as long as it holds up to the original intent charm and beauty of this hymn. There is a reverence and honour to times past in preserving the classical language used.

I did heard this in Phil Keggy's album "True Believer" not long after I have my life to God. I love it as much! Now I have all the words so I can learn it. Thanks so much!

This hymn from my childhood has been coming into my mind lately in the night, when I wake up and throughout the day. I couldn't remember all the words so I was glad to find them here and wrote them in my journal. A special memory of this hymn is our oldest daughter using it as the song she had played on her wedding day as she came down the aisle 20 yrs ago. 😊

Beautifully written hymn, the choir rendition(s) superb, my song of solace with lyrics that constantly renew/revive my soul. I can play this hymn on repeat and still can't get enough of it. Thank God I am born and raised a Christian. I believe Jesus is my vision and Lord of my heart.
I use this hymn as my morning devotion as I may lose focus when problems come along my way when I want to complete my assignment. I can do only when I draw near to God. He is my loving Father who is in full control of all circumstances, He will carry me through. Thanks for those who composed the hymn.
