'Midst the darkness, storm, and sorrow,
One bright gleam I see;
Well I know the blessed morrow
Christ will come for me.
'Midst the peace, the joy, the glory
And the light, God's own,
Christ for me is watching, waiting,
Waiting 'til I come.
One bright gleam I see;
Well I know the blessed morrow
Christ will come for me.
'Midst the peace, the joy, the glory
And the light, God's own,
Christ for me is watching, waiting,
Waiting 'til I come.

Long the blessed Guide has led me,
By the desert road;
Now I see the coming splendor,
Splendor of my God.
There amidst the love and glory
He is waiting yet;
On His hands a name is graven
He can ne'er forget.
By the desert road;
Now I see the coming splendor,
Splendor of my God.
There amidst the love and glory
He is waiting yet;
On His hands a name is graven
He can ne'er forget.

Who is this, who comes to meet me,
On the desert way,
As the Morning Star foretelling
God's unclouded day?
He it is who came to win me,
On the cross of shame;
In His glory well I know Him,
Evermore the same.
On the desert way,
As the Morning Star foretelling
God's unclouded day?
He it is who came to win me,
On the cross of shame;
In His glory well I know Him,
Evermore the same.

O the blessed joy of meeting,
All the desert past;
O the wondrous words of greeting,
He shall speak at last!
He and I together ent'ring
The fair realm above;
He and I together sharing
All the Father's love.
All the desert past;
O the wondrous words of greeting,
He shall speak at last!
He and I together ent'ring
The fair realm above;
He and I together sharing
All the Father's love.

Where no shade nor stain can enter,
Nor the gold be dim,
In His holiness unsullied,
I shall walk with Him.
Meet companion then for Jesus,
From Him, for Him, made—
Glory of God's grace forever
There in me displayed.
Nor the gold be dim,
In His holiness unsullied,
I shall walk with Him.
Meet companion then for Jesus,
From Him, for Him, made—
Glory of God's grace forever
There in me displayed.

He who in His hour of sorrow
Bore the curse alone;
I who through the lonely desert
Trod where He had gone;
He and I, in that bright glory,
One deep joy shall share—
Mine, to be forever with Him;
His, that I am there.
Bore the curse alone;
I who through the lonely desert
Trod where He had gone;
He and I, in that bright glory,
One deep joy shall share—
Mine, to be forever with Him;
His, that I am there.

Love this precious song of the reality of sharing "in person" relationship with my Savior some day at His bidding. My days have been numbered by Him from all eternity past and future. At 80 years old, it can't be long.
So very amazing that He in his holiness will delight in having me with Him.

This hymn and the comments bring to mind the joy of meeting with the Lord. The sorrow of losing a son, and great great sorrow God must must feel when losing one of His own creation to the depths of despair. Bro. James I’m so sorry for your loss.

James, I have read your note a couple of times and wanted to share with you the grief of losing your son whose age you do not give. I have never thankfully been in such a situation although I am sure that the Lord Himself will have sustained you through such a difficult period. You will have found much consolation in hymns such as this one as well as the scriptures and other matters. May God Himself continue to bless you in the years which he graciously allows us. I hope that hymnal.net will allow the publication of this my email address, if you wish to drop me a note: foxtrot_delta_sierra@yahoo.co.uk. Thank you.

I just returned from putting flowers on my son's grave and suddenly a verse from that hymn came to memory and I started to sing it. I looked in the Brethren hymn book but could not find it, so I tried to find it and sure enough I found it and it brings tears to my eyes just to sing it. I did not realize there was so many verses. Love, in Him. James.
