The Church's one foundation

E833
1
The Church's one foundation
  Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
  By water and the Word:
From heav'n He came and sought her
  To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
  And for her life He died.
2
Elect from every nation,
  Yet one o'er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation,
  One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
  Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
  With every grace endued.
3
'Mid toil and tribulation,
  And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
  Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
  Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
  Shall be the Church at rest.
4
Yet she on earth hath union
  With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
  With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
  Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
  In love may dwell with Thee.

And Her church will always need Him in desperate times like these.

I can't express the joy from inside when I sing the Church is one foundation ... And to one hope she presses with every grace endued...

We will never forget what the Lord did to win His bride. Today as His church we are so complete in Him knowing our sufficiency is in Christ alone.

I have had this hymn on my mind all week and as I read it over and over I am reminded of the wonderful hope we have in Jesus Christ. One day we will all worship Him face-to-face, together. I look forward to that day.

If you can find a way to get your hands on a copy of the old black-and-white film made in the late 40s or early 50s starring Frederick March, titled "One Foot in Heaven," this is the hymn the producers chose to close out the entire movie. There are tears in my eyes each time I recall this closing scene. I know I fell in love with it then, but I've loved this hymn since I was a child. How grieved I am that we cannot hear it anymore in most churches today. Instead we get the "worship band," and with the exception of Keith and Kristin Getty's marvelous songs, pale, anemic choruses by comparison with little or no bedrock teaching of basic truths of the faith.

Hello,

"The Church's One Foundation" is a beautiful hymn. This was our hymn at Bible Study Fellowship in Garland, Texas at the Women's Day Class yesterday (03/06/18). So glad I located this site. I will share it with others. Look for a Bible Study Fellowship Class in your area. You will benefit greatly.

Our lesson was from Romans 12:3-8

3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. d 4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

Oh! What Joy! I just found this site. I’m singing this and feeling my gramma one side of me and my grandpa on the other. My gramma always sang harmony. I can sing harmony too, up and down. It comes from the Spirit in these old hymns.

I woke during the night and began singing this hymn which I haven't sung for years. I felt the Lord Jesus so close, and thanked Him for this beautiful hymn.
