Trust and obey

1
When we walk with the Lord
  In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
  While we do His good will,
  He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey,
For there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
  But to trust and obey.
2
Not a shadow can rise,
  Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
  Not a doubt or a fear,
  Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
3
Not a burden we bear,
  Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
  Not a grief or a loss,
  Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
4
But we never can prove
  The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay;
  For the favor He shows,
  And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
5
Then in fellowship sweet
  We will sit at His feet,
Or we'll walk by His side in the way;
  What He says we will do;
  Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.

Loved this hymn since I was a child in a Presbyterian school. The words are timeless. Thank you dear Jesus.

This hymn was inspired in 1886 by Dwight L. Moody, during one of his famous revivals. His music partner, Ira Shankey, shared: “Mr. Moody was conducting meetings in Brockton, Massachusetts and I had the pleasure of singing for him. One night a young man rose up in a testimony meeting and said, ‘I am not quite sure—but I am going to trust and I am going to obey. ’ I just jotted that sentence down along with a little story and sent it to a Presbyterian pastor friend, John Sammis. He wrote the hymn, and the tune was born.' The hymn first appeared in a collection of hymns in 1887 and has been included in many hymnals since then.

Sammis was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. , and was a businessman in Indiana. Working for the YMCA, he was later called to the ministry, He attended McCormick and Lane Seminaries, and was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1880. After serving several congregations, he joined the faculty of the Los Angeles Bible Institute where he taught until his death. John wrote hymns, the most popular of which is Trust and Obey. It shares the rewards of trusting God’s will. Our eternal reward will be “when in fellowship sweet when we sit at his feet. ”

It's a wonderful hymn. I have been singing this hymn since my childhood. It shows the fruits of trust & obey, the powerful route to salvation. The hymn is an inspiration for all of us to do His will & get ready to dine with him in that heavenly abode. Amen
