1
O Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my Guide.
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my Guide.
2
Oh, let me feel Thee near me;
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.

Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
To hasten, or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
To hasten, or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.

O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.
5
Oh, let me see Thy footmarks,
And in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly
Is in Thy strength alone.
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end;
And then to rest receive me,
My Savior and my Friend.
And in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly
Is in Thy strength alone.
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end;
And then to rest receive me,
My Savior and my Friend.

Just worshiping God in the night, suddenly this song was fired into my spirit, and I browsed the lyrics quickly to sing it well. I was never interested in signing hymns before, but I say today, 'hymns carry power'.

Just woke up about 12:04am with this hymn in my heart. I had to browse to get all the wordings. What a reassuring commitment. Oh give me grace to full.

Honestly, this song is a song of promise unto the Lord when one encounters Jesus as his/her personal Lord and Saviour and also a firm reassurance and plea to God for upholding one to the end. It really melted my heart this morning as we were singing and praying with it in our office prayer cell. It really touched my heart and I pray nothing will make me Miss heaven at last in Jesus name Amen.
This song came to me this morning. With all the troubles in the world, it gives me strength.

What a comfort these old hymns are. How they remain hidden in our memory and then the Holy Spirit brings them to our remembrance just when we need them. This morning He did just that. Praise God.

This hymn has always ministered to me for over three decades.
Way back in ENUDA HIGH SCHOOL - ABIRIBA. ABIA STATE. Nigeria
Just this evening The Holy Spirit brought it back to my memory, so I decided to Google it to go through the lyrics once again.
Check out the last stanza,
Until we see the footmarks of the Saviour Jesus Christ, we may not be able to plant our feet on them.
May The Saviour uphold us to the end.

This hymn keeps my inner spirit high always in worshipping God.
