O Jesus, I have promised

1
O Jesus, I have promised
  To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
  My Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
  If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
  If Thou wilt be my Guide.
2
Oh, let me feel Thee near me;
  The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
  The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
  Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
  And shield my soul from sin.
3
Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
  In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
  The murmurs of self-will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
  To hasten, or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
  Thou Guardian of my soul.
4
O Jesus, Thou hast promised
  To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
  There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
  To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,
  My Master and my Friend.
5
Oh, let me see Thy footmarks,
  And in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly
  Is in Thy strength alone.
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
  Uphold me to the end;
And then to rest receive me,
  My Savior and my Friend.

I am reading my prayers of the day and following a service for the day, at home by myself. I miss being able to sing hymns in church during the current measures we need to follow. So I have been going through a list of my favourite hymns, and singing out of tune by myself to all my favourites. Then when I came to this Oh Jesus I have promised, it lit me up, the sun suddenly shone through the blinds and a warm internal glow flowed through me. Always loved this hymn.

I remember singing this in my school assembly aged 9. For the first time I realised that the writer appeared to have a real and personal relationship with God. I wondered if this were possible or true but declared in my heart that if it were I wanted it too. Aged 18 and an atheist, God graciously revealed Himself to me. I knew my life could never be the same again and received Him as my Lord, Saviour and Friend.

At 73 years old, I woke up at around 5:30am this morning very concerned about my future in this time of the Covid-19 Pandemic and Government Elections when this Old favourite Hymn entered my thoughts. I was reminded that over 60 years ago as I child in High School I promised to serve Jesus to the end.

I searched for the Lyrics on Google and was reminded of Jesus' promises to all who follow Him. I was overwhelmed with gratitude! Thank you my Saviour, my King, and my Friend, Christ Jesus!

I woke up singing this old hymn and what a reminder that we have His Holy Spirit with us to be Our Guide

He always draws us to the Savior, Jesus Christ. We do not have to fear. He will be with us to the end of our days. Hallelujah!

This song just came out from my lips and I had to Google the lyrics. It has a reconnecting power back to the Savior Jesus. For me it's a reassurance.

Hope to make it my daily hymn
