I'm pressing on the upward way

1
I'm pressing on the upward way,
New heights I'm gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
"Lord, plant my feet on higher ground."

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith on Canaan's tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
  Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
2
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.
3
I want to live above the world,
Though Satan's darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.
4
I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I'll pray till rest I've found,
"Lord, lead me on to higher ground."

The song as the organ is played lifts me up unto His presence.

This hymn just came to me. I looked it up and found your site. Thanks for playing the song too. It makes me very emotional and I can't seem to understand why! Maybe I long to go the upward way and be healed completely and free from it all! Amen.

As I was meditating this night, some wordings of the chorus of this song came to me and this is a song I used to sing in the seventies. As I typed in the few words I remembered, behold every verse came out including the tune. Thank God for Internet but above all, thank God for such songs that still carry the meaning and anointing as ever. I was blessed.

I heard Joni Erickson Tata singing this song on the radio this morning and it was just what I needed to hear to start my day. God is good!

This song just came to me. I couldn't remember the words but I found it. And singing it in my heart calmed the storm within me for just awhile. Reading the comments helped me to breathe better. God sends to what you need not what you want. I needed this song tonight and it did what I needed it to do.

I was thought this song in 1983 as a chorister at St Peter' Ang. Church Umuozu. We had to learn the toning sofa cos there was no organ accompanying. It has remained with me ever since and I use it for inspiration. s s d m. m r d la. r d la s d m d r....s s d m m r d la r d la s d m r d. Refrain S d m s. S fa m fa...........

Thank you for your ministry through providing these lyrics. I've just finished reading Philippians 3:12-17, and was prompted to sing this song.

My country is also at political crossroads as we prepare for the next general elections in 2017. Keep us in your prayers!

I went to bed last night with concerns for our nation. This morning I awakened with the lyrics to this song ringing in my heart. Our Father is still alive in America. God bless America.

My country is at the cross road now and I'm really confused about the situations, suddenly I remember this song. I know God will not forsake His people.

To be in the spirit is the key, the secret. In the spirit we will experience many wonderful things of Christ because we have crossed the Jordan and entered into Canaan. When we are in the spirit, we are in the rest, and we are in the Holy of Holies. Therefore, we must always renounce the natural man, the outer man. For example, many times in the Lord's work I was tempted by the enemy to quarrel with others. On those occasions I felt that my reason was right, that the case was mine, and that I had the doctrine to support me. Yet while I was trying to speak, something deep within restricted me and stopped me. In order to go along with that deep feeling, I had to drop my quarreling. Consequently, it seemed that I had nothing to say. But I can testify that every time I went along with the spirit, there was victory. If we take care of our spirit, the mighty One in our spirit will be our strength. We will be transcendent and victorious over many things. When we come to the meetings, we will come with many items of Christ to contribute, either in prayer, singing, giving a testimony, or speaking a short word. Philippians 4:13 says, "I am able to do all things in Him who empowers me." But where does Christ empower us? He empowers us in our spirit. Our mind is the stronghold and the open gate for the enemy, but our spirit is the base for the Lord to do His work. Thus, when we go along with the mind, we are defeated, even though we may be doing something good. But if we go along with the spirit, we will be victorious. We will be on a high mountain, on higher ground, and, in the words of a hymn, "on Canaan's tableland" (Hymns, #396). We will be in the heavens and will be transcendent.
