1
I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.
2
I need Thee every hour,
Stay Thou near by;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.
Stay Thou near by;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.
3
I need Thee every hour,
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
4
I need Thee every hour,
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.
5
I need Thee every hour,
Most Holy One;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.
Most Holy One;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.

The Lord just spoke to me now about the next steps I need to take, the main purpose of my existence, I need Him to lead me through this phase of my life. I need Thee every hour,
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.

Mrs. Annie Sherwood Hawks, who wrote this hymn in 1872, was born in Hoosick, New York, in 1835. She sent the hymn (five stanzas) to Dr. Lowry, who composed its tune, adding a chorus to make it more effective. It first appeared in a small collection of original songs prepared by Lowry and Doane for the National Baptist Sunday School Association, which met at Cincinnati, Ohio, November, 1872, and was sung there.
One instance, at least, of a hymn made doubly impressive by its chorus will be tested by all who have sung or heard the pleading words and music of Mrs. Hawks’ and Dr. Lowry’s “I need Thee Oh, I need Thee. ”

I need thee every hour… such a beautiful hymn that says it all… Lord don’t ever let me forget how much I need thee every hour!
