He Hideth My Soul

1
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
  A wonderful Savior to me;
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
  Where rivers of pleasure I see.

He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
  That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of His love,
  And covers me there with His hand,
    And covers me there with His hand.
2
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
  He taketh my burden away;
He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved,
  He giveth me strength as my day.
3
With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,
  And, filled with His fulness divine,
I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God,
  For such a Redeemer as mine!
4
When clothed in His brightness, transported I rise
  To meet Him in clouds of the sky,
His perfect salvation, His wonderful love,
  I'll shout with the millions on high.

Juat doing some work on my computer at 1:45 AM when this song popped up in my mind and I searched for its words and sang it through.

I was blessed.

Yesterday our friend Stephen was called home to the Lord and this wonderful hymn was chosen for his wake service. Stephen whose faith and work had touch so many, was ill for a greater part of his life. His praise of the Lord's faithfulness was never ceasing. For him each time he overcame a crisis in his illness, it was like a crown of blessing from God.

Yes what a wonderful Saviour, what a wonderful song. I used to sing it to my children as they fell asleep, the sweet peace of God filling the room and our hearts. Now I sing it to my granddaughter. Such a blessing to read of its effect on Christians from every nation, tribe and tongue - all one in our wonderful Lord! And thank God for Fanny Crosby, who wrote this song and so many others.

This song assures God's superb protection. Moreover, this is a heavenly lullaby for all Christians. How fortunate, how blessed to know our Lord watches over us every passing moment. Thank You, God my Father, Jesus my Brother and Friend and the Holy Spirit my Senior Pastor. I salute You all.

Louise, what a beautiful story about seeing the cleft of a rock! I'm reading that story aloud to my little girl, who had asked me for an explanation of the imagery in this beautiful hymn. Thank you for sharing!

We just returned from a trip to the Grand Canyon, one of the 7 wonders of the world. Pictures cannot adequately describe the beauty of it. Only God could sculp something of such grandeur! As we were at a lookout point I noticed this large rock with a sharp angular jut, and immediatley knew that this must be what they call a "cleft". Immediately I thought of this hymn, and the promise that the Lord hides our soul in the cleft of the rock. Surrounded by miles of dry desert with no shade in sight, this cleft cast welcomed shade onto the structures beneath it. If it had not been deemed as being dangerous, I would have loved to have climbed over there and sat for a while! How great is our God!!
