Before the throne of God above

E327
1
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea;
A great High Priest, whose Name is Love,
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
2
My name is graven on His hands,
My name is written on His heart;
I know that while with God He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart.
3
When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look, and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin.
4
Because the sinless Savior died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me.
5
Behold Him there, the risen Lamb!
My perfect, spotless Righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
The King of glory and of grace.
6
One with Himself, I cannot die;
My soul is purchased by His blood;
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ, my Savior and my God.

This song brings me to the throne of God's grace and mercy. It is the Gospel Story in 6 verses. It is a gift from God to His children to help them understand Who He is, who they are and how unimaginably much He loves them.

Behold Him there, the risen Lamb!

My perfect, spotless Righteousness,

He's not just the Savior, he is my Savior. I'm so forever grateful. He would die for me, for me.

We sang this in our fellowship in Lusburn, Northern Ireland. The sense of Gods love & majesty was tangible in our Prayer meeting. The old hymns had depth, serenity & a sense of awe not found as often in modern hymns. Keep on publishing & living in the power of The Risen Christ & indwelling Holy Spirit

When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free. For God, the just, is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me.

Such an incredible truth.

Been humming it in my head all morning after we sang it in church on Sunday. Had to find the lyrics so I can truly worship in singing out loud.

It's amazing how this hymn clearly spells out the grace of God, how can you read these words and still seek after one's own righteousness? His grace started it, His grace will see it to accomplishment!

So much truth to meditate on, yet I wonder how much I really grasp that nothing can bid me to be separated from His love and salvation! Wow!

They don't write lyrics like this today, do they? Though I must admit the modern melody is more moving than the 19th century version. PTL.
