Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

The Lord hath promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun.
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun.

So agree with the love of this song. Here's the longer version I sing and play on guitar:
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound/That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found/T’was blind but now I see
T’was grace that taught my heart to fear/And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear/The hour I first believed
My chains are gone, I've been set free/My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains/Unending love, amazing grace
The Lord has promised good to me/His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be/As long as life endures
Through many dangers, toils and snares/We have already come
T'was grace that brought us safe thus far/And grace will lead us home
My chains are gone, I've been set free/My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains/Unending love, amazing grace
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow/The sun forbear to shine
But God, who called me here below/Will be forever mine
When we’ve been there ten thousand years/Bright shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise/Than when we first begun
My chains are gone, I've been set free/My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains/Unending love, amazing grace

John Newton write this song after many years of trading Africans in the trans-Atlantic trade. He gradually realized how unChristian the trade was and first thought teaching the Bible was enough. Eventually he decided slavery, a severely racist system in the modern period, was not Christian and finally gave up trading in slaves. He wrote Amazing Grace to reflect his belief that God saved him, a slave trading wretch, from his own horrific sins of trading in slaves and racism. This can be a lesson in how one man came to realize Godliness doesn’t include being a trader in humans and a racist.

This hymn is timeless and inspiring. It is one of my go to songs when driving and singing worship and praise to the one true God.

This means so much to me. I thought it was good that whoever put up and sang for our father; they are a good person.

It is my late husband's birthday today; and I just had to sing this now; as he loved this so much. I know he cannot hear me; but he so loved to hear me singing this; having read the story of John Newton; and what he was; and what he became after he got to know God; it really is amazing grace; that saved a wretch like me: glory to God! and to Him be all praise: God bless everyone at hymnal.net. and thank you for hours of pleasure.
