I've found a friend in Jesus, He's everything to me,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul;
The Apple-tree of trees, in Him alone I see
All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.
In sorrow He's my comfort, in trouble He's my stay,
He tells me every care on Him to roll:
He's the Apple-tree of trees, the Bright and Morning Star,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul;

He all my griefs has taken, and all my sorrows borne;
In temptation He's my strong and mighty tower;
I've all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
From my heart, and now He keeps me by His power.
Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt me sore,
Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal:
He's the Apple-tree of trees, the Bright and Morning Star,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.
In temptation He's my strong and mighty tower;

He'll never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here,
While I live by faith and do His blessed will;
A wall of fire about me, I've nothing now to fear,
With His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.
Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face,
Where rivers of delight shall ever roll:
He's the Apple-tree of trees, the Bright and Morning Star,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.
While I live by faith and do His blessed will;
A wall of fire about me, I've nothing now to fear,
With His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.
Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face,
Where rivers of delight shall ever roll:
He's the Apple-tree of trees, the Bright and Morning Star,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

I went to bed feeling a bit low, but after confessing the relevant scriptures for my healing God woke me up after a sound sleep. I sense his love and closeness so much, l began to worship, then he dropped this hymn in my spirit oh!! As l sang it, I felt so loved, snd encouraged, thank u God . God is a very present help in times of need . Psalm 46.

Its a very, very emotional song... Whenever I am broken and going through the deepest sorrowful valley, I sit in the room all by myself and with tears flowing down my cheeks, I sing this song.. I get comfort from Jesus so much after that.. There's no one to share my burden, just my JESUS, to whom I say everything. Thank You my Lord. You are there for me always when all leave me and none around to lean upon in the world...

Born: May 30, 1838, Alderbury, Wiltshire, England (birth name: William Charles Fry). Died: August 24, 1882, Park Hall, Polmont, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Buried: Glasgow, Scotland. On New Year’s Day 1884, a monument to "The first bandmaster of the Salvation Army" was unveiled over his grave. On it was inscribed a verse Fry wrote: The former things are past, And ended is the strife, I’m safe home at last! I live an endless life! A bricklayer by trade, like his father, Fry was a versatile musician, playing the violin, cello, piano, cornet, and harmonium, and leading an orchestra and band at the Wesleyan chapel in Alderbury. He is our great friend. our Lord Jesus

The original title of this song is "The Lily of the Valley".
In Song of Songs, the Lord's lover is "The Lily of the Valley", and her Lord is "the apple tree among the trees".
The hymnal. net version replaces "the lily of the valley" with "the apple tree of trees" because the song is applying that metaphor to the Lord.
Therefore I think the hymnal. net version is a worthy improvement over the original.
Song of Solomon 2:1 I am a rose of Sharon, A lily of the valleys.
2 As the lily among thorns, So is my love among the daughters.
3 As the apple-tree among the trees of the wood, So is my beloved among the sons: In his shadow have I rapture and sit down; And his fruit is sweet to my taste.
Another way to align this song with Scripture, and still keep the author's tender feeling about the Lord would be to replace "the lily of the valley" with "His lips tender as lilies" based on:
Song of Songs 5:13 His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: *his lips like lilies*, dropping sweet smelling myrrh.
