1
Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain,
Free to all—a healing stream,
Flows from Calv'ry's mountain.
There a precious fountain,
Free to all—a healing stream,
Flows from Calv'ry's mountain.
In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
From the cross my ransomed soul
Nothing then shall sever.
Be my glory ever;
From the cross my ransomed soul
Nothing then shall sever.
2
Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the Bright and Morning Star
Sheds its beams around me.
Love and mercy found me;
There the Bright and Morning Star
Sheds its beams around me.
3
Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadow o'er me.
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadow o'er me.
4
Near the cross I'll watch and wait,
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I see my Savior's face,
Leave His presence never.
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I see my Savior's face,
Leave His presence never.

Please change the last verse too. The last two lines are
Till I reach the golden strand
Just beyond the river.

Yes, especially in these times in society with all that is going on, we know that Jesus is still in control, to keep Near the Cross!!!

So many times have I found myself near The Cross, that it seems more like home to me than all the joyful occasions God has afforded me. This is not because I am a masochist. The glory that I find is well worth any pain I had to experience to get there, and I consider myself quite fortunate to have been given this opportunity

Jesus is all the world to me. I praise Him for His ultimate sacrifice on the cross.

The refrain in the Baptist hymnal from the early 1990's goes "n the cross, in the cross be my glory ever, til my ransomed soul shall find rest beyond the river." the "ransomed soul" referring to what Jesus' death on the cross accomplished for our souls by paying for our ransom from sin's enslavement. When they changed the word to "raptured soul" they took the meaning and continuity away from Fanny Crosby's original and took the focus off Jesus and put it on our emotional response. Typical of the modern church. Beware of preaching and teaching that pleases your ears but does nothing to convict you of sin or point to it's conqueror, Jesus.

The refrain goes:
in the cross, in the cross be my glory ever
'Til my raptured soul shall find rest beyond the river.
Please fix it because these words are mportant. Please check the hymn book and then print.
