The Church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word:
From heav’n He came and sought her
To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word:
From heav’n He came and sought her
To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.

Elect from every nation,
Yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.
Yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

’Mid toil and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

Yet she on earth hath union
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
In love may dwell with Thee.
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
In love may dwell with Thee.

I had a preaching engagement at Lagos, I was preparing to speak on the Foundation, early morning around 4:00am, this hymn came to my mind. , When I started going through it my strength renewed.

This hymn was written in sorrow over one of many divisions in the church. The writer had some vision of the preciousness of the one expression of the church. This is one of the writer’s hymns that stood the test of time. So there must be some left who really know how much God cares for the oneness of the body. After all it is His expression.

This a is a great hymn about the church and the oneness of the body. It was written in 1864. I’m sure it was written because the writer longed for the unity of the church. See verse four. It was written after there was a great division in the church of England. The last verse also speaks of the meek and lowly. There are not many leaders like this. Remember the meek and lowly, like Christ, will inherit the earth.

The Hymn just dropped in my heart, although I grew up knowing this hymn in church, but today I take note of its profound words and meaning! Oh Lord... what deep love you have for us, we can never comprehend but only imagine.

I used to sing this lovely old hymn as a child. Maybe Church of England. For the last few days, day and sometimes night I find myself trying to remember the words. At last Mr Google has helped me.
Oh how powerful it is. Holy Spirit will continue to remind me until I have "got it."
I was talking to my husband the other day about the merits of old versus new songs and we came to the conclusion that good is good whether old or new. God bless, brothers and sisters in Jesus.

How wonderful elect from every nation, yet one o're all the earth. Hello my brothers and sisters. I was looking for the words to the hymn and read some of the comments from various places around the world. One day we will be in heaven together.

I was straightening and cleaning our bedroom this evening and verse The church victorious will be the church at rest kept me singing in my spirit as I cleaned, looking for several missing items. I felt peace all over me as I worked. Then I cooked supper, we ate, and now it is bedtime and I still feel that peace. I am still hearing that song in my spirit. Blessings from Texas, the friendly state.
